Advancing Research at the Betty Cowan Research & Innovation Center
The Ludhiana Christian Medical College continues to lead in cutting-edge research through the Betty Cowan Research & Innovation Center. Named in honor of beloved missionary Dr. Betty Cowan, the center recently acquired a Hyperspectral Imaging System—funded by an $85,000 grant from the Ratan Tata Trust.
This powerful new technology expands the center’s research capabilities, enabling imaging across visible to near-infrared wavelengths. With applications ranging from fingerprinting blood smears to monitoring wound healing, mapping oxygenation in blood vessels, and identifying microorganisms, the system offers limitless possibilities for biomedical research.
Dr. Neeta Kang, Head of Innovation, highlights how this breakthrough positions the center not only as a hub for advanced studies but also as a teaching and training site for hyperspectral imaging in India. In 2013, the center sponsored its first international symposium and workshop on spectral imaging, underscoring its role in shaping future collaborations and innovations in healthcare.
The Betty Cowan Research & Innovation Center stands as a lasting tribute to Dr. Cowan’s legacy, combining faith, service, and science to impact lives through medical advancement.
