The College of Dentistry needed to replace the mobile van used to provide dental care to people in the villages surrounding Ludhiana. Pictured above, the old van was in very poor condition and was no longer registered to be driven. Out of 12,581 villages in the area surrounding Ludhiana, about 63% of the population lives in rural areas, often facing challenges in accessing essential oral health care services.
One of the oldest mobile dental services in North India was established by the Public Health Dentistry Department of Christian Dental College (CDC) and Hospital, Ludhiana, India. This unique mobile dental service started in 1984, 8 years before the formation of dental college. Over the past 38 years, lakhs of patients have benefited by the mobile dental services provided by CDC. It was imperative to help fund a replacement van to continue this service.
